Greetings! On Sunday, we discussed the question: "What opportunities are there for learning and teaching in the home?"We talked about the responsibilities parents have, and then Haley led us in a great discussion about this talk and what we have learned from our parents. Thanks Haley!
We finished off with this fun video:
Coming up this next Sunday, we will be starting a new theme: "Commandments." And the first week we will discuss the question, "How do the commandments help me to be like Heavenly Father?" If you'd like to prepare for this lesson during your daily studies, check out the Obedience section of True to to the Faith, the booklet.
Also see if you can come up with any anologies to go with this picture: how are the commandments like a guard rail? How are they like the road?
See you Sunday! Oh, and just a reminder if you need one, it's fast Sunday :)
This week I watched this BYU Idaho Education Week talk. I thought of our lessons this month about journaling and family history, and I thought it went so well! I love the part where he talks about recording his own spiritual experiences in his voice on family search. Because he is living, no one can see them but him. But when he passes away, his loved ones will be able to access all of the memories that he posted while alive. How cool is that! Watch this if you want to know more about the family search memories tab:
This past Sunday we talked about how sometimes when we share our beliefs with others, the words we use are hard for them to understand. Hyrum led us in a great activity where we came up with common questions we might be asked about marriage and family, and we paired up to come up with a one minute answer that those outside our faith can understand. It was great! Thank you, Hyrum!
This cute video I saw last week reminded me of our lesson:
Coming up this week, we are still talking about families. We'll be discussing the different opportunities we have to teach and learn in our homes. Haley will be team teaching with me!
Please think about the lessons you've learned in your home from parents or siblings, and different opportunities you've had to teach in your home.
On Sunday we talked about family history: why we do it, how we do it, and why it's important. I hope you all have thought about our discussion and thought of something you'd like to try that you haven't before, whether it's finding names for the temple on family search, adding pictures or stories to familysearch, indexing, keeping your own family history, or interviewing family members.:)
This coming Sunday, we will be talking about how we can explain the importance of marriage and family to others. Hyrum and I will be team-teaching! If you'd like to prepare for the lesson, here's a few options:
This talk by Elder Anderson is so good and is written specifically to the youth!
Also, maybe you'd like to peruse Mormon newsroom or mormon.org to see how the church teaches using terms that those outside the church might understand.
I realize that our class is made up of a diverse group of kids with varied family experiences. I hope that all will feel comfortable participating and sharing whichever situation you come from, and know that our class is a safe place where the spirit can teach us what we should know.
I love you all and hope you have a great rest of the week!
This past Sunday we shared personal or ancestor's journal entries and discussed the importance of and blessings that come from keeping a personal journal. We learned from President Eyring to take time each day to write one way that you've seen the hand of the Lord that day. I've been doing it, and I love this way of journaling!
Coming up this week, we will continue on with this theme, and discuss the importance of learning about family history. Haley will be team teaching with me! If you'd like to take some time to prepare for our lesson, check out thisawesome website made just for you!
This week in Sunday school we discussed the question "How do I keep my covenant to always remember the Savior?" We got started a little late because we didn't realize we would be combining classes, but I really appreciated everyone's patience and reverence. Jared led a great discussion using scriptures that taught us ways we can "always remember" our Savior We remember Him when we make good choices and when we think of Him throughout the day. Sometimes we are prompted to remember Him through the Holy Ghost or through our trials.
Coming up this Sunday, our topic is "How will keeping a personal journal bless me and my family?" Everyone who is willing has been asked to participate by bringing a meaningful journal entry to share, either of yours or of an ancestor. If you'd like to, you can include this conference talk in your studies this week: O Remember, Remember.
