Update 10.1

On Sunday, we discussed the question, "What blessings does Heavenly Father promise if I obey the commandments?  We celebrated Jared and Tanner's birthdays, which are coming up on the 1st and 4th of October.  Happy birthday, guys!  We also welcomed a new young woman to our class, Katelyn (I hope I spelled your name right).  We're so happy to have you join us!
We also took a class picture!  I wish everyone could have been in it!  I really love and appreciate all of you, what you teach me, and for your acceptance of me.

Isaac led us in a great activity where we looked in the scriptures and in conference talks for blessings promised for specific commandments.  So many great blessings!  We also discussed the perspective that not all of the promises from Heavenly Father are fulfilled in this life, but many of them are.  Thanks for team teaching with me, Isaac!
Here is a great video from Elder Scott, an apostle that passed away last year.  We ran out of time to watch it in class:
I hope that you will look for and trust in the promsed blessings from Heavenly Father.  Let them be a guide and motivation in your life!

Coming up this weekend is General Conference!  Wahoo!  One of my favorite weekends all year.  I encourage to think of questions you may have, questions about the direction of your life, or your testimony, or questions about the gospel.  Write them down and then watch conference with these questions in mind.  See how it affects your conference experience, and share it with us when we are back together again, if you can.  Have a great week!

Update 9.4

Happy Wednesday everyone!  To recap last Sunday, our lesson was "How can inspire others to live the commandments?"  Madison led a great discussion beginning with the scriptures Matthew 5:16 and 1 Timothy 4:12, the scriptures that insipired President Monson's talk "Be an example and a light."
We shared people from our lives who have inspired us to do better.  Thanks so much, Madison!
This video is a pretty cool example of this principal:

Coming up this Sunday: "What blessings does Heavenly Father promise if I obey the commandments?"  Feel free to study anything from this link to prepare, but especially if you would please take a few minutes and read the First Presidency Message in the "For the strength of youth" booklet, and, if you'd like, underlining the promised blessings you find there.  Isaac will be team teaching with me this week!

One more thing!  If most everyone is there this week, I'd love to get a class picture, is that okay?  If so, come ready to say "cheese!"

Update 9.3

I hope you are all having a wonderful week!  On Sunday we were almost all back together again.  We're still missing a few of you!  This week our topic was How can I help others understand my standards?  We shared some personal stories about our attempts at sharing our standars with others, and Tanner did a great job team teaching, by sharing an experience of his own and some scriptures that go along with it.  We heard a great testimony from his as well.  Thanks Tanner! Then, we got into groups and read what President Monson has said about some of the Lord's standards, and practiced teaching them to each other.  It was fun for me to listen in on some of your conversations, you did great!
Here's a great webpage that builds on what we've learned.

Oh, and we celebrated Sophia's birthday which is this week!  Happy birthday Sophia!

Coming up this week, Madison and I will be team-teaching on the topic "How can I inspire others to obey the commandments?"  I'm really looking forward to what we'll learn together.  If you'd like to prepare, feel free to study anything on the outline linked above, but here's a couple things right here for you:

See you Sunday!

Update 9.2

This week in Sunday school we talked about Commandments.  I loved the discussion this picture brought about how commandments are like the path and the guardrail!

  • Commandments are like the path because they make it easier to get where you're going.
  • They keep us safe
  • They lead us to our destination.
  • It looks like there's a tunnel ahead.  Even when times get "dark" and tough, if we stay on the path of Keeping the commandments, we'll make it to the light.
You guys are brilliant :)

Coming up, our next lesson will be "How can I help others understand my standards?"
Tanner will be team teaching with me!

This week, please think about  the times you’ve been asked to explain your standards.  How did you explain?  Is there anything you wish you’d done differently?
