Hi Everyone!
On Sunday, Haley and I led a study and discussion about learning and it's place in Heavenly Father's plan. We studied the quote from last week's posts, and shared examples from our lives of times when we learned something, and made a change because of it.
Remember, when we know better, we do better. Thanks Haley!
Here's a short video that reinforces these concepts:
Coming up this week, our topic will be What is the role of agency in learning the gospel? Maddie is going to team-teach with me this week!
If you'd like to prepare to participate in the lesson, please read John 7:17 and ponder how this scripture relates to our participation in classes and meetings.
Also, you could check out this article by Elder Bednar if you're feeling motivated: Seek Learning by Faith
Also this week, we'll be celebrating the birhdays of Joey and Ammon, so that will be fun!
One more thing- I'm curious how many of my students and parents read this. Would you mind putting your first name in the comments?
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to spend each Sunday in class with such awesome people. This week was great. We talked about where we had seen the hand of our Heavenly Father in our lives the past week, and we got some incredible stories of divine help and tender mercies.
Ammon had us sing "How Great Thou Art" and as we were singing, we wrote on the board what things came to our mind as we were singing that show the greatness of God.
This is the list we came up with, isn't it great?! Ammon helped us to see that this writing on the board is a testimony, as is art, music, and other forms of expression that glorify our Heavenly Father. What a great message, thanks Ammon!
I love this video and wanted to share it with you:
Coming up this week, our topic will be "Why is learning an important part of Heavenly Father's Plan?" Haley will be team-teaching with me this week!
In preparation, would you please read the following, and think about a time in your life when you have made changes because of something you've learned at church or from General Conference? We'll have a chance to share in class. This is an excerpt from this talk.
The Examined Life
Brethren, none of us likes to admit when we are drifting off the right course. Often we try to avoid looking deeply into our souls and confronting our weaknesses, limitations, and fears. Consequently, when we do examine our lives, we look through the filter of biases, excuses, and stories we tell ourselves in order to justify unworthy thoughts and actions.
But being able to see ourselves clearly is essential to our spiritual growth and well-being. If our weaknesses and shortcomings remain obscured in the shadows, then the redeeming power of the Savior cannot heal them and make them strengths.12 Ironically, our blindness toward our human weaknesses will also make us blind to the divine potential that our Father yearns to nurture within each of us.
So how can we shine the pure light of God’s truth into our souls and see ourselves as He sees us?
May I suggest that the holy scriptures and the talks given at general conference are an effective mirror we can hold up for self-examination.
As you hear or read the words of the ancient and modern prophets, refrain from thinking about how the words apply to someone else and ask the simple question: “Lord, is it I?”
We must approach our Eternal Father with broken hearts and teachable minds. We must be willing to learn and to change. And, oh, how much we gain by committing to live the life our Heavenly Father intends for us.
Those who do not wish to learn and change probably will not and most likely will begin to wonder whether the Church has anything to offer them.
But those who want to improve and progress, those who learn of the Savior and desire to be like Him, those who humble themselves as a little child and seek to bring their thoughts and actions into harmony with our Father in Heaven—they will experience the miracle of the Savior’s Atonement. They will surely feel God’s resplendent Spirit. They will taste the indescribable joy that is the fruit of a meek and humble heart. They will be blessed with the desire and discipline to become true disciples of Jesus Christ.
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
I loved being back with most of you this week. I still miss those of you who couldn't make it :( We talked about preparing spiritually to feel the Holy Ghost in classes and meetings, and we watched this video clip of Elder and Sister Bednar from their Face to Face event. If you were there on Sunday, you can see the end that cut out on us (I'll get it figured out!) by skipping to the 3:40 mark. Sister Bednar has some great things to say about it. I agree that when we are living obediently, we are often led by the spirit and we don't even realize it!
Coming up this week, our topic will be How can I learn to see Heavenly Father's hand in all things? Ammon will be team teaching with me! I hope you will pause to notice when you are being blessed or seeing His hand in your life. If you're willing, please write it down or record what you find in some way so we can discuss it on Sunday.
This video will help you know what to look for:
See you Sunday! Oh, and guess what? I'm speaking in sacrament meeting! This will give you an opportunity to test out "not having a boring sacrament meeting" like Elder Benson! Haha :)
Hi everyone,
We didn't have regular class on Sunday because of Branch Council; we had the opportunity to learn from our stake leaders! It was wonderful. To recap for those who missed it, I feel like I need to start with President Heath's counsel from Sacrament meeting. This is from my notes, so I hope I didn't miss anything. I loved it so much, I made a graphic for it:)
He then followed this up in Sunday school by discussing the enabling and strengthening power of searching out our ancestors and taking them to the temple, with a promise that if we do so, we will have protection against the adversary.
You can bet I went home and found some ancestors! If you want to do this, but need help getting started, please comment at the end of this post or let me know and I can arrange it. Getting started is the hardest part, but it is such a great work.
In preparation for our lesson, please ponder this scripture. When have you felt the Spirit guide you or answer your questions? What did you do to spiritually prepare for this experience? Please share it with us on Sunday!
Thanks,
Sister Davis
It was great to be back with most of you at Sunday school this week, after a snow day and Christmas! I've missed you :) This week, Jared gave us the lesson he had prepared, "How can I share my testimony that Jesus Christ is the son of God?" We read some scriptures that testified of Christ's coming, discussed how each of us honored Christ at Christmas, and watched this video:
Thanks, Jared!
Coming up this Sunday will be Branch Conference. I haven't yet heard if I will be teaching or if stake leaders will be teaching, but either way, studying this talk will help prepare you. It's a good one!
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
On Sunday, we discussed he 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. Wow. There was so much we could have talked about and studied, but I felt impressed to study the doctrine in hymn #196, Jesus Once of Humble Birth. We made two lists, one for the description of Jesus' mortal life, and the other of prophecy of what his Second Coming will be like:
Humble Birth In Glory comes to earth
He suffered grief and pain He comes on earth to reign
A meek and lowly lamb The Lord, the great "I Am"
Upon the cross he bowed His chariot is the cloud
He groaned in blood and tears In Glory he appears
Rejected by his own Their king he shall be known
Forsaken, left alone Exalted to a throne
All things he meekly bore Will bear no more
What a message of hope and peace! You know how I love the hymns!
To prepare for this lesson, please focus on our Savior this week, any way you like! You can study the scriptures:
Matthew 2
Luke 2
Helaman 14
3 Nephi 1
Or, you can watch some of the inspirational videos that are made this time of year. I've made a playlist on Youtube you can check out:
How's your #LightTheWorld coming along? I am loving it! Here's the link to the rest of the videos, since I may not post again before Christmas:
Dear friends from Sunday School,
I missed you on Sunday! I was feeling very flu-ish, so I stayed home and did family history, which was awesome! I heard that Sarah, Kayla, and President Day did a great job with the lesson about standing as a witness of God. Thank you all so much for contributing and the peace I had knowing you all would be just fine without me :)
Coming up this week, Our lesson is What can I learn from the scriptures to help me prepare for the Second Coming?
To prepare for our lesson, consider looking up "Jesus Christ, Second Coming" in the Topical Guide of your Bible. You might want to look for scriptures that answer the questions, "What will happen?" and "What do I need to do to prepare?"
You could also watch or read this awesome talk by Elder Bednar:
I look forward to being with you again!
How are you doing on #LIGHTtheWorld ?
I've been loving it so far, there are so many ideas on the website (more than the videos offer), so everyone can find something to do to spread the light of Christ this season.
Here are this week's advents:
